Captain Jean-Luc Picard is a fictional character in the Star Trek franchise, primarily portrayed by Sir Patrick Stewart. He appears in the television series "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (TNG) and its subsequent films, as well as the series "Star Trek: Picard." Picard is the captain of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D) and is known for his wisdom, diplomatic skills, and strong moral compass. He is an archaeology enthusiast, fluent in many languages, and has a passion for Shakespeare. As a Starfleet officer, he is deeply committed to exploring new worlds and seeking peaceful interactions with alien species. Jean-Luc has had to deal with many situations throughout his career as a Starfleet officer. Probably the most significant of these occurred during the two part episode The Best of Both Worlds which spanned the final episode of season 3 and the first episode of season 4 of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and is associated with his assimilation by the Borg which, although he was rescued, is an experience that has left lasting psychological scars.
Later in life, during Star the series Star Trek: Picard, he has to deal with personal regrets and the aftermath of the destruction of the planet Romulus, with that series exploring the themes of loss, redemption and the impact of past decisions on Picard's life and legacy.
